There's an 88 tercel wagon that just entered the local pull and pay (Denver), I was trying to figure out if the front seats will swap into my 83 4x4... The junkyard one is 4WD...

Yes, the seats should drop right in. They may look out of place though, the '87 and '88 models used tweed.

Just pulled the front seats from that 88. They're in incredible shape! The whole car is! Especially considering the odometer read over 413k!! Will the back seat swap straight over as well?

Rear seats will swap over (as will the door panels.) How are the headlight ass'ys on the donor car?
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

Yes, my car is 4WD. My door panels are in good shape. The shifter in my car has been giving me issues and getting worse all the time. The shifter in the car in the junkyard worked wonderfully. I'm thinking I might switch out the sticks and see if that alleviates my shifting problems.

So I just finished swapping out all the seats from that 88 in the junkyard. I also swapped the shifter. What a difference! She shifts so nicely, no massive play in the stick! When I pulled mine out, there was 0 gear oil in the compartment, plenty of rust and some corrosion. The seats fit perfectly and are very comfortable! Next up! Fixing the exhaust! Pretty much need to replace it, front to back...

the chamber the shift linkage is located is separate from the gear box and transfer case, but it should get lubricated. water resistant grease is good for the ball and cup, and any moving parts you can reach, and putting some gear oil in the chamber is not a bad idea. but do not fill it up with gear oil.

A new larger dia exhaust system 2" dia or larger, is a good idea, but if the one in the wrecking yard is good, it usually saves money to pull it off the one in the wrecking yard. Remember to bring penetrating oil to spray and soak the bolts before you try and remove them.

Mattel, yes, that is the one! I was astonished at the mileage and the overall condition of the car.
Petros, unfortunately they cut out the catalytic convertor as soon as the cars come in to the yard, leaving the exhaust virtually useless.

I think you might see more photos of that car on TTAC or motorweek soon. The guy whose instagram it is writes for them about the cars he finds at wrecking yards.

Might be worth looking at the headlight assemblies. The flush '88 type very rare now so someone should grab them! They look great and I imagine fit the earlier year car.

You in the Denver area? I'm not sure when I'll be getting back to the junkyard but I can take a gander.
Mattel, do you know why that 88 is in the junkyard? Did the guy say?
