need help in pricing my 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD

Post by Jannie »

Hi all,
Time to sell my 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD. Any input for a reasonable price would be appreciated!
- Bought it new off the lot and am the original owner. 230,000 miles; engine rebuilt once with new clutch plate and new timing belt. Runs well, but could use a good tune-up. Good tires, clean interior (but not pristine), one interior door panel has slight damage (size of a quarter). There is a little rust on the side panels by the hood and the gas cap lid. The windshield wipers are rusty. No accidents. Not garaged but lives in the Seattle area without salted roads. No damage to the body of the car; just regular wear-and-tear, but the gutter above one window is damage (pulled out a bit). Replacement radio works fine. The heater linkage needs to be replaced (the control on the instrument panel), but the heater works fine.
Thanks!

Your car has a lot pluses. Give it a good wash and wax, and presuming there are no other mechanical issues, $3500 would get it sold in the Seattle craig's list fairly quickly with a well written ad. They are popular around here and most of the ones that show up for sale are fixers and over priced.

good luck.

a little bit of detailing will go a long way. mask around the wipers and spray them flat black. you could do the gutters black again with a small roller. and you can use super glue to glue them back in if they are coming off. amourall over the black plastic or even wd40 on a rag will get them looking clean. if you have the reciepts for work done you should advertise that as well.. good luck!

repainting the wipers will help the appearance a lot, use steel wool on the rust to get the loose flaky rust and old paint off, than use flat black Rustolium paint you can get a Home Depot or similar store. You do not even have to remove them from the car, just put news papers under them, and wrapped tight around the pivot to keep overspray off the windshield the body work.

Use RustOleum Satin Black spray/liquid - it will present better than flat.

This car has been sold now. Thank you for all for your help! I think it went to a good Tercel home.
