The HAC is the thing with the red top right? I was gonna save all of this anyway for the 85's restore.
Yeah, the hatches are the same, you can see where the rear seats in the 4wd wagons sit further back closer to the rear windows.

in the 2wd wagons, do the bottoms of the rear seats fold up so the backs can lay down flat? that's what i've found in most other station wagons. i get annoyed with how the seats in the 4wd wagons don't quite lay flat.

No, the bottom of the seats stay in place like the 4wds. You have to do my mod to get them to lay flat. But that only works if you never have passengers in the back seat.

In my FWD wagon, the bottom flips up and lets the back of the seats lay flat!

Cool. Maybe it wasn't an option in all the years here. Now I do remember seeing one after looking at you pic Paul.

Granted, with kids, we never get to do that, in either the FWD wagon, or the Camry wagon.

i think that's such a better design. i'm sure they could have made this work around the tunnel for the rear driveshaft in the 4wd's, and i really wish they had.irowiki wrote:In my FWD wagon, the bottom flips up and lets the back of the seats lay flat!

Re: I bought another one! I shall call her MINT and she'll be FRESH
the rear seat for the fwd wagons is completely different, the floor is shaped differently, the fuel tank is under the rear seat too. None of the wagon rear seat parts are interchangeable with the 4wd wagon rear seats.
It might have been possible to make the sit flip forward on the 4wd wagon like that if they put a big "U" cutout in the bench over the drive shaft tunnel, but I am not sure they could have called it a 5 seat wagon than. likely some idiotic federal requirement.

Well, the time has come gents. I was going to just swap the motor and enjoy her a little bit during the spring, but rust has had other ideas.
Good news is, the parts cars section of frame is completely solid! So its just a matter of cutting out the rust and welding in new. Im not even mad about that, Im excited. What I am aggravated about is that now I have to re-arrange the basement so I can store all the parts I remove from the parts car... wasnt planning on doing that for a while, but whatever.
Off to the basement I go...
