Need new springs

Post by CMB »

Hey all,

I am almost done acquiring parts for engine swap/front end rebuild and wanted input on front and rear springs. I am looking at restoring original ride comfort/performance and height...leaning towards the slightly lifted/ slightly stiffer side of stock. What do you guys suggest? I would like to keep it well under $300 for the 4 springs shipped to the door. Thanks

Front springs are readily available; see https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... ngs#p42480 and https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... it=springs.
I got Duralast/TRW(?) FCS212V from AutoZone - $79 the pair in late 2007 - from b & m store - not online. These were for the AC-equipped car.

Pedders in OZ is the only source for rear springs for the T4WD Wagon; others claim it, but no one has it for the 4WD Wagon. See https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... it=pedders
Note that member Mattel in OZ mentioned at one time that King Springs down there also had springs - dunno if still available.
New OE rears have not been available from Toy USA or Canada for some years.

Unless you run off road a lot....look here under my raincoat....for $30 I can set you up with some doughnuts. You get stiffer suspension...better cornering and braking...and with the slightly lower stance of sagging springs....better handling. Not to mention cheaper. Put the saved $ into some 14" wheels and good 60 series all season tires?

Get the springs for the A/C equipped car even if you do not have A/C, they are a bit stiffer and ride better in my observation (I hate the typical soft mushy ride of the corolla/camry).

Thanks guys. Tazka, I thought of going that route, but I decided on new springs. Petros, good idea. I do not have a/c, so will get the benefit of slightly stiffer springs. And Archinstil thanks for the sources! Will have to get them ordered this week.

Sweet! Just ordered last pair of wholesale closeout springs from rockauto. Got the moog front CS 214 with AC for $27 plus $16 shipping. for ~44 to my door! I am glad I checked there, because I was just about to order the same springs from justsuspension for $95 plus shipping!

Now to locate some rear springs...

Do a Search here for assorted threads on rear springs. Basically - they are not available in North America.
Pedders in OZ has them (stock type and "HD") on its site. A few years ago Pedders had an importer in the USA (dunno if now) - I had some info on it 3-4 years ago. Not cheap, but, really, not too bad. I think member Mattel in OZ had them on his Terc. I know inactive member Typrus in CO had them.
They are different from the 2WD.

Another rear spring option is those out of a Nissan Pathfinder ('88-'95). They go right in, the spring is actually the same size as the tercel's, but it has 8 coils made out of thicker metal vs 7 in the stock setup. These will give you 3-4 inches of lift, though sounds like you just want the stock ride hight-- it's easy to cut a few coils off the spring to drop it down to the stock T4 height. Cutting the spring will increase its spring rate, so you're probably going to have stiffer than a set of new stock tercel springs, not sure if that's what you want but just another option thats not pricy.
