Rear lateral control arm issue

Post by Morency »

Hi Guys,

So I have serious rust issue with the support of my lateral control arm.

I wonder if anyone of you had similar issues with them. The support is half gone and I wonder what would happen if it end up breaking.

Anyone running without?

Any suggestion about how to fix that up, us different mounting point?

Does someone have a part car he could cut & send me part of the support so I can weld it back in place?

The tercel already took lots of abuse in the last week, but before we receive more snow I'd like to fix that up just to feel more safe.

Waiting for your inputs, thanks!

This has happened to at least one other person a 5 or so years ago. He posted pictures and (I think) a fix. I'd suggest doing a Search in either Repair Guides or Repair Questions; also use "panhard" (rod) in the Search title. It could be dangerous - I think his rear axle came totally adrift when the mount failed...

If the panhard rod (or lateral link) comes loose it would be almost undriveable except at a very slow crawl. the rear end will want to steer the car as the axle shifts laterally from side to side. It should be able to be repaired by welding it up with flat steel stock.

Good luck with it.

I have some thick metal plate that I'll weld on there next weekend... The actual setup is scary!
