A little trick I use is to do as follows
Remove wheel
Remove brake drum
Remove the four nuts that hold the axle in place (easy access through the holes in the axle between the lug nuts)
Put the wheel back on but put the lug nuts on only about three turns
Pull the wheel out against the lug nuts suddenly, it acts like an impact and usually pulls the axle on the first or second try
Alright guys, i'm scared to ask...I have a noise

keith's preceding post is a pretty good trick as well (that keith - always the clever one!).

thanks I'll give that a shot......it does have a little play I'm sure with the right impact it'll pop right out. How is it held in? just with a compression type c-clip like the front axles?
Also I'll probably end up ordering new bearings and seals from rockauto....how fast is shipping usually?

shipping isn't bad, up to a week. so order maybe 2 weeks in advance if you really needthem. Or you could just order overnight shipping if they have it available.

Couldn't wait that long...and the shipping cost was ridiculous. I got a bearing and seal set it locally for $32. And the wheel trick worked...a couple solid jars on the wheel and the axle popped right out. I just hope getting it back in will be as easy

Going back in is usually easy, assuming you clean out all the rust and grime.schmooot wrote:Couldn't wait that long...and the shipping cost was ridiculous. If you continue to drive on bad bearings, thinking its a break or something, the axl will come out on it's own, without tools of any kind. I've learned what not to do. Don't lose a wheel at freeway speed, it's unsafe

Re: Alright guys, i'm scared to ask...I have a noise
i have not tried this but a recent post brought it up
and it sounds good
flip the brake drum around and put the lug nuts on
but not tight
you want some travel for the drum when you pull it
it will slam against the nuts
just keep it up till the axel pops out
other than that a slide puller is needed
i have a homemade one

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
