Open oil gallery plug

Post by Dumindu »

My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 DX Wagon with 3A engine.

I have noticed a open oil gallery plug at the rear aspect (covered by the bell housing) of the engine block.

There is a small oil leak in the engine.

Could it be the cause?

Should I add a plug to it?

If truly the plug for the oil galley, it wouldn’t be a small leak. The oil galley has a plug on the front as well, does it line up with the plug you are looking at?

It was closed just by the end plate.

I have added a screwed plug.

yes, there should be threaded plugs in ALL oil galley ends. surprised you did not trash your engine, with it open the engine would not develop any oil pressure and the cam shaft and crank will get oil starved and fail very quickly.
