Clutch alignment tool

Post by tsrnc22 »

I am doing an engine swap and need a clutch alignment tool. I am talking about the small plastic plug that holds everything in place when you put it together. I can only find it available with new clutch kits. I had an old "new" clutch kit sitting around. I installed it but it did not include the tool. I have been unable to find one online or with knowledgeable auto parts store help. Does anyone know where to get one or have an extra?
Its 21 spline around 0.98'' diameter.

I've got one I could send you if you could send it back when you're done?

I couldn't tell you. I've always installed clutches with their prospective tools. I wouldn't want to chance it.

pull the input shaft out of the tranny and use it to align the clutch
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

removing the input shaft is easy enough, as Xirdneh suggests. it actually is more accurate than the plastic tool.

for many years I went without using a tool. I would assemble the clutch on the back of the flywheel, and put a rod into the pilot bearing and "eye ball" the alignment, so all the parts were concentric. as a final check, I would shine a light into it and sight down it to verify that all the parts were centered on the pilot bearing. That almost always worked out fine. The problem with doing this, if you are off a bit getting the trans assembly into it becomes a major pain. You have to depress the clutch pedal to free the pressure plate to allow you to move it around a bit until it lines up.

M-PACT AT5306 clutch alignment tool on Rockauto. Less than $2 not including shipping. Also the PIONEER TAT5306 will work.

I have got made a Input shaft like thing with wood from a lathe worker.

I brought the clutch plate to him with the inner diameter measurement of the bearing. (Also a piece of wood)

I think it could have been better if made from iron.
