CV axle continues to pop out

Post by Scott0911 »

About two years ago I replaced the CV joints on my turdcell. 50 miles from home it snapped, part of it went into my tranny and destroyed my tranny.

This time I have replaced it two times now after about 20- 30 miles it clearly is starting to pop out again. I’ve replaced the snap rings with stronger ones, I’ve checked the length of the CV axle to make sure it’s the same. I don’t know what I’m doing at this point incorrectly. Please help me. I need a vehicle for work.

I would pull off the front cover (drain it first of course), than use a wire brush and solvent to clean out the splines and snap ring groove. it may have sludge and build up in the groove not allow the snap ring to pop open all the way. You can buy different size round brushes at the auto parts store (they are cheap), use that to clean it out good with solvent, than inspect it with a flash light and see if there are any burrs or other defects, if so file them off with a round file, and clean with solvent and the brush again.

Usually that should do it. if the spine hub is badly worn or pitted, it may need to be replaced. thought that is rare, there should not be any relative motion between the male and female ends of the spline, so there should not be much wear. likely it is sludge build up that needs to be cleaned out.

good luck.
