My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC DX Wagon.
I have repaired the brake system. While doing that, I had to replace the brake shoe hold-down pin and its spring due to corrosion.
It was difficult to find the exact spring, the clip like one that of Tercel. So I had to add a coil spring one.
Added spring coil is longer and it applies a high pressure on shoes.
Would this affect for the performance of the brake?

Re: brake shoe hold-down spring tightness
not likely will make any difference.
the purpose of those springs is to keep the shoes from chatter and to prevent it rubbing on the inside of the brake drum. there might be a harmonic that is affected, but it not likely that making it hold on tighter will affect it much.
If you get funny moaning sounds from harmonic vibration, you may want to try a different spring, and it might be worth inspecting after several weeks of driving, but I would not worry about it.
