87 DLX(according to toyodiy.com) 4wd wagon

even toyodiy.com listed both 28100-15011& 28100-15020 for my vin
so which is it... Gear reduction? or Direct drive?

already spent quite a few hours searching the forum and the internet.
And search optimization was part of my computer engineering curriculum so i'm pretty sure i'm doing the best i can using google.

help me ol t4 forum, your my only hope

It comes down to a visual inspection. Typically the direct drive are larger, where the motor is substantially larger than the solenoid. Gear reduction has the motor and solenoid about the same size. Rockauto has photos of both on their website, so that should clear up any of my descriptive shortcomings. Good luck!

Edit: Autocorrect seems to think starter motors lather...

ok. that actually helped. don't know why i didn't notice that distinct size difference of the solenoid but looks like i got the gear reduction one since they're about the same size and has those two long bolts on the sides of the solenoid
