Headlight Column Switch '84 4wd SR5

Post by TrustyTercel »

Does anybody know if the headlight/wiper column switch assemblies are interchangeable between '84 and '85? The headlight column switch imploded recently and I can't seem to find a used assembly for a '84 SR5 wagon (4wd). ... Plenty of 85's 'though. Maybe the plugs are different?

Thanks!

I have heard there is a difference between the plugs, IIRC the later models gained an additional pin. Hatchbacks use a different wiper switch.

I did put an 85 or 86 complete column in my 84 to remedy a loose lower u-joint. It was plug and play so hopefully it could work.

The headlight & wiper controls are all plug and play between t4's. The only difference will be in the wiper controls: most DLX's do not have an intermittent speed whereas the SR5's do.

If you're replacing this part on your car anyway, you could try to find the headlight and wiper controls that have an adjustable intermittent wiper speed. I've always been a big fan of those since the single intermittent speed is almost always too fast or too slow. Here are the details on the adjustable controls:

... Just a follow-up. It's been a busy last few months. But, I did get around to installing the column switch assembly. ... '85 SR5 4wd wagon assembly fits perfectly, same plugs as an '84.

I like having the intermittent feature but I also like having the mist feature...so annoying that you can't have both!
