manual choke

manual choke
anyone tried to put one on?..ive disconnected most of the choke that was there cause it never worked properly..no dieseling valve either..i just put a plug in cause it was leaking gas..it would be nice to have a fast idle in the morning again

The fast idle and choke are actually two different, but connected, systems.

you could rig a simple manual cable to speed up the idle, they use to sell "generic" choke/throttle cables with a knob and pushrod that mounted on your dash.
Simplest way to convert to manual choke is to do a weber conversion but use the one with the manual choke.
There might be a way to disble the choke linkage and rig a cable control to it, will require fabbing some parts, brackets, etc.

after posting i looked around for a weber carb..found this one..

fuel pressure regulator and ?..i see guys getting way better mileage then i, so i figured it would pay for itself..i plan on driving my toy for at least another 10 more years..i only got 160k miles on her and put maybe 3000 a year on her

I have owned one, and driven several T4wd with the weber carb, they do not improve fuel economy much. you will either have to buy an adapter, or make one to fit the manifold. Y
ou can buy a jet kit and experiment with different jets, may improve the economy than, at a little less power out put. there is a thread in the forum archives setting up the jets, it is a good place to start. Usually the jets they come with are too big (too rich) for the Tercel engine.
you can also pay a specialist to measure exhaust out put and adjust the jets accordingly, but fewer shops around that can do that anymore. Best to get it close, and trial and error with different jets. Jets are easy to change on the weber, they are under a top cover, you do not have to take the carb apart to get to them. Lots of info on the internet available for the weber carb.
you can find used ones for much less, it you want manual choke verify it has one, they also come with a water heated and electric auto choke.
If you need to replace your factory carb because it is worn out and not rebuildable, the weber is not a bad way to go. but it is questionable if by the time you are done fiddling around with the weber installation, if you will ever make up the cost different with economy.
