Correct ignition condenser value ?

Post by Dumindu »

My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC DX Wagon

My car having a problem in starting now. I checked ignition condenser. With an analog multimeter connection to the ground and the hot leads, It doesnt move the indicator.

It is a 0.25uF one. Then I searched in local market to find a such. They told now 0.25 not comes to the market. Only the 0.27 available.

After long searching, one merchant had a 0.25 one. I bought it for around 3.5 USD. Before I connect it to the car, I checked it with the multitester. It also not move the indicator. It seems it is also not functioning.

Can I use 0.27uF for my car?

It would help if you described what happens when you try to start car.
Like "i turn the key and nothing happens"
Or " i turn key and starter does not rotate engine"
Or "starter rotates engine but engine does not start'
And more details
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Initially Starter rotates. Engine doesnt start. Spark plug wires also doesnt have pulses (checked with a spark wire tester).

After new condenser connected, car starts. After 1-2 seconds car stops.

I tested condensers by following this article

1. Short circuit the wire (hot lead)to the cover (ground lead) and discharge the condensor.
2. Analog multimeter was turned to the 1K Ohm resistance measuring scale.
3. Connected the condenser hot lead to the red wire of the multimeter.
4. Connected the Condenser covering to the black wire of the multimeter.
5. Observed for a multimeter indicator movement.

Finally I found that the correct Ignition Condenser Value is 0.25uF. Some condensers comes as 0.25uF but show around 0.26-0.27 uF value with multimeter. They even works.
