Cam Lobe position when ignition happens

Post by Dumindu »

My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC DX Wagon.

My car engine is having a problem.

When valve timing is adjusted, What is the position of the Intake Cam Lobe that contact with the rocker arm when ignition happens?

For number one cylinder both lobes are down. Timing mark on crankpulley at zero. Timing hole on cambelt gear lined up with arrow.

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

I havent disassembled the cam. So I dont know about the cam shaft and cam timing pulley structure. When cam pulley is disassembled from camshaft, and re-assembled, should we fix it to a precise angle or is there any mark, cut or any groove (As in crankshaft - crank pulley connection) to auto fix the angle?

the cam and gears on both ends can only be assembled one way because there are alignment pins

Finally I found that the both lobes on exhaust and the intake valve should pointed downwards. (around 45 degrees)
