Just finished my rack replacement. Took the better part of the day and I forgot to put the new O-rings on the pressure lines so I'll be back out there in the morning to pull the lines loose and put the O-rings on. It's barely leaking as is. Just a couple drips. I took it for a test drive though and it is nice and tight and responsive. Way better. After I replace the O-rings I'll take it on the freeway to see how much better it is at speeds.

Man. I have my rack sitting on my press just waiting for the day. I have a cocktail of liquids and I would rather replace the lines and the pump with it so I don't contaminate the new one with brake fluid. Soon, I hope I will do it soon.

Posting here as to not start a new thread:

Where can I find the rack mount bushings? I've got some slop in the steering and seen firsthand thst my rack is moving before the wheels do. I remember the one bushing is a perfect circle and the other is more "D" shaped.

I would like to find a set if possible and I am also hoping that the 1 bushing on ebay worth 44$ isn't the one I'm looking for. Thanks.

SuperPro probably makes a poly bushing for the steering rack.

They did not. I just sent a message asking if they could offer any support.

they make a polyurethane rack bushing for the first gen MR2, which is the same as the manual rack in the Tercel. not sure about the power steering rack, or where you could get one.

I'm thinking I just need to buy this ebay one for now then to get me by until I can find some poly bushings somewhere else. This looks like the correct one...

That looks like your best option.
Autozone sells a similar bushing for ~$40, I believe under the "Rare Parts" brand name. That's the one I was going to purchase, if I follow through with removing my power steering rack.
Mine is currently leaking, though not terribly. Hoping some Lucas ATF Stop Slip additive will be enough to help seal my slight weeping.
Anyway, that looks like the correct part.

Unfortunately, no direct replacement available just yet for the O-shaped grommet/bushing. There is a member on the Tercel 4WD Facebook page who is working on some poly bushings, but he is not ready for distribution of them yet.

Did you follow through with the replacement of your power steering rack & pinion, Bailey? How did it go?
Any tips for someone who will need to do the same soon?

It wasn't too bad from what I can remember. You just have to knock out the outer tie rods from the hubs, loosen the steering rod and slide that off the racks then there are 4 bolts, (2 on either side) that mount it to the sub frame.

There are some polyurethane mounts out there somewhere, I think I was able to find them on eBay. It was a fairly straightforward job.

Got it. Yes, the removal & replacement procedure itself seems easy enough, from what I have read in the FSM and what you describe.
I'm really debating between replacing my steering rack with a reman'd one and rebuilding my own myself with a seal kit. Heavily leaning towards using the seal kit from what horror stories I have read about reman'd rack and pinions.

Are you referring to finding the D shaped one on ebay or the O shaped one ? If you have an eBay link for the O shaped one please share. Myself and many others on the FB group have exhausted our odds of finding any online stores for that one.
