When I have the steering wheel dug to the right I am getting a bad grinding sound. This could possibly mean a bad cv on the drivers side correct?
It's an 85 2wd tercel.

If it was a wheel bearing wouldn't it be a constant noise though?

wheel bearing can be constant while driving and louder when turning, thats most usual
i have experienced bad cv and wheel bearing sounds
bad cv's usually clack or click when turning sharp but i had one recently sound like a bad wheel bearing without the clack/click but it did not get louder while cornering

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

My wheel bearing didn't make any discernible noise unless I was turning hard right. Then it was a grinding like you're describing. Would also sound and feel lumpy during low speed full lock turns. Drivers side wheel had a small amount of vertical play when jacked up. Changed it out and all is well.

Re: grinding when turning hard right. cv?
I have had bad wheel bearings only make a sound in turns, otherwise runs normal Usually until they get really bad will they make a constant roar in all conditions.
A bad cv usualy makes a thumping or clunking noise only in a turn to the side the puts weight on the bad cv joint. CV have to be really bad before they only clunk and make noise going straight, but turns are so bad by than you will know for sure it is the CV joint.

CV's usually thump or clunk, bearings usually grind. the sounds can be interchangeable in unique cases though. best thing to do to figure out which is the culprit is remove the steering knuckle to isolate and test each one by hand.
