Getting My Tercel Back Up and Running After Sitting a While

As the title says, looking for some general advice on all the things to look at/go through for my 83 SR5 Tercel which has sat for a few (8-9 months) and only been run a few times. Quick story on this Tercel. I bought it back in November, drove it maybe 30 miles or so and got about halfway through registering it (didn't get it smogged) before I parked it. It was parked because I found a minty 1985 SR5 with 100k miles. Well, my 85 has also been parked since about November undergoing a full overhaul:engine (4AC), trans, brakes, suspension, steering, etc. For some reason, I never went back to working on the 83 because I wasn't realistic about how long the 85 would take to get on the road. Now, the 85 is still a ways from being done and I want to get back into driving a Tercel. So, I need to get the Brown Badger not only running again, but through smog.

My plan is:

Check vacuum lines and routing, replace as necessary
Go through FSM on vacuum system and do all tests
Go through FSM on carb and do all tests/adjust
New fuel and air filters
Fresh gas, maybe an additive/sea foam?
Top off all fluids, probably an oil change.
Retorque manifold bolts
Check/adjust timing for 5 deg. (for smog)


So the question, what else should I look at doing to get the car back into as good of running shape as possible?

If it was running fine before you may not need to do much.

Maybe a little bit of oil down each spark plug hole and hand turn it.

It was running ok before. definitely needed some fine tuning to start with though.

I would start to use it and let it tell you what it needs.
Most of the t4's i buy have been sitting much longer

I have some time this weekend so wanted to do everything easy that I could to give it a good chance of passing smog. Just wondering if I missed anything obvious I guess.

Your on the right track for CA smog vac lines and fsm tests.
