Vacuum Advance

Post by irowiki »

Call me crazy but this just showed up on RockAuto, been searching since mine is toast:

http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,catalog ... 90231.html
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 1790231 [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty]
Vacuum Advance Ctrl - $11.83

http://www.oehq.com/oeparts_BEC179-0231.htm seems to show it is an actual part, and it may or may not fit on second gens?

I'm ordering two, I figure I can keep one as a spare or hawk it on ebay later! Hopefully they didn't miss a decimal point or something.

i couldn't see pics at either of those links but when i do an image search for that part #, i come up with this

which looks correct for the 2nd gens. not sure if it will also fit your first gen but at that price, you could certainly sell them here on the forum if they didn't fit your car.

It was listed under 1981 Tercels but oddly not under 83+

Here is a picture from the rockauto catalog for what is supposed to be a vac advance for an '84 Tercel. looks like the vac connections are at a different angle, no biggy. looks like it should work.

all the vac advance units i have seen on tercs have had their ports at different angles. some pointed forward, some backward, some toward the block, etc. pretty weird but yes, it made no difference. all worked fine.

in the pictures shown above
the upper left port is usually the High Altitude and it has a pinhole (hard to see pinhole in these picts)
recently i was working on a tercel that had the lower right port as the High altitude
never saw one like that before

It came in today, and is an actual unit that seems to work after limited testing!

How long can you store these before the diaphragm goes bad?

the diaphragm should last for many, many years. some of them in the cars still work after 25 years!

thanks to irowiki! looks like you should get a job as a rockauto sales rep, or at least ask them for a cut of their discount tercel vac advance sales, haha.

Got my two in the mail... Looks like it will work perfectly! The ports are bent differently than the stock one, but the vacuum lines will reach. Now I just need to source a Toyota gasket set and get my little one leak free and getting 35 mph! Thank you irowiki!!!!!!
