SPEC Clutches, great option to handle more power

Post by SynthDesign »

I spoke with Jeremy last week. Here's what he said regarding torque ratings for their different stages. These are calculated specifically for our little 7 1/2" disc. If your doing a motor swap or building a block, they have a wide range of options.

Thanks for the email. Here are the numbers as factored relative to each stage:
Stage 1 130lb.-ft $239.00
Stage 2 149lb.-ft $299.00
Stage 3 178lb.-ft $329.00
Stage 4 178lb.-ft $329.00
Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!!

They Are a bit more than some of the other offerings but quality and longevity are worth a price.

looks like the SPEC stage 3 gives you the most value for your money.

The C.A.P Clutch Mfg offers a 169 ft-lb clutch for $159. That is a real bargain in terms of amount of capacity per $, you have to spend $170 more (more than double) to get just 9 more ft-lbs of capacity with the SPEC. There is no reason to spend more money on the SPEC clutches to get less capacity unless there is a noticeable quality difference.

Does the higher torque rating mean it will last longer? I would suspect so.

I looked into the CAP clutches. Not a lot of positive feed back on engagement feel or life span. I don't know anyone using them at all currently! Can anyone let me see how it feels. I kinda wonder about the price to durability issues.
Spec claims 80,000 on a daily driven stage 3 clutch without being abused. I can get 118,000 miles out of a factory Dakin(*Exedy) OE clutch, which is still retails for more then the CAP ones for both plate and disc.
