Free to good home: Complete 4AFE swap

Post by teranfirbt »

Hey all, after breaking a 2nd transmission input gear set, I've decided I'm going to let the 4AFE go. Up for grabs is a complete, basically turn key, 4AFE swap kit. The whole thing is set up to be bolt in and requires no modification to the firewall.
Includes:
4AFE engine -> Rebuilt ~30k miles ago. Runs strong, doesn't use oil, gets ~28mpg highway, 22 city with my leaden right foot
Complete custom 2" exhaust, including header. Bolts in and uses standard Walker 31400 gaskets.
Custom intake manifold manifold
Cooling piping to use the factory radiator
Tuned Megasquirt 1 ECU, wiring harness, and wideband O2 sensor
GM CS130 alternator
Bolt in fuel surge tank with EFI pump, filter, and lines
Working Air con, I use Envirosafe Industrial to charge it
Modified Tercel fuel tank with electric lift pump -> This one I want to trade for your clean Tercel tank since I have plans for the car

I'll grab some pictures later today.

Price: Nothing.
Location: East Seattle suburbs
Conditions: Must take the whole kit, no parting. Must pick up, I'm not going to figure out shipping on this.

Also, don't worry, there are plans for resurrection in mind :D

Holy moly, I second Chris' sentiment. I hope the lucky taker brings you some home made baking or beer or whatever.

It's odd that the 4afe would cause the transmission failures -- there have been a few members here who have done 4age swaps and not mentioned any trans issues so I wonder what was going on there.

What are your plans for the car now? I assume you're not going to go back to stock.

I will be happy to take this off your hands next time I am down your way. I can get there friday morning in fact.

I have an '87 waiting for an engine, this will save me a years worth of spare time. I can pull the existing tank for you, but not sure when I can get it out. do you need it right away? that may have to wait until saturday to get the tank out.

let me know when I should show up, must be either friday, saturday or sunday. Friday I have to go to the airport in the morning.

My problem is driving style and the unknown condition of this transmission, it was a Xirndeh special.
In any case, my inspiration for what's coming is Project Binky, but that's all I'm saying for now 🙃.

Teranfirbt had to put off the engine swap because of other issues going on in his life. I suspect he will follow through, but I am in no hurry anyway. I just as soon plan ahead for it (so when I show up at home with another engine project to unload into my crowed shop, my wife does not go into fits over it...the sacrifices one makes to stay married...sigh). but hopefully when he gets settled, we can plan ahead better for a good time for me to come help him remove it and haul it off. it would be better that I get my T4wd daily driver running again anyway, so I have something better suited to carry the engine, fuel tank and other bulky parts back home to the swap project car.

will keep you posted on developements when/if they finally happen. I will be very pleased to get a working set up to swap into my project Tercel4wd rather than have to fiddle around making something work.
