Fender Replacement Help/Question - WTB

Post by epara »

1986 Toyota Tercel Wagon 4wd - Gold color -
Unfortunately, my Tercel was hit by another car in the middle of the night, while parked. Fortunately the driver left their contact info and claimed they hit a patch of ice and ran into my parked Tercel. Anyways, I am looking to buy a replacement fender and turn signal and also wondering what other years of Tercels have similar parts or body style. Thanks for the help.

epara,

Any year of fender will work I believe. The park lamp housing is different between early and late and I expect is what you need. I believe the turn signals are just below the bumper.

The park lamp will fit regardless of the year. I swapped my 87 flush fit style ones for lamps from an 84 while using my original fenders and everything fit.

for the fender, do a search on https://www.car-part.com/

there's a few driver's-side fenders on there, ranging in price from about $50 to $125 (plus shipping)

somebody needs to confirm this, but I am under the impression that the front fenders are the same for 1983-86 wagons... the 1987 and '88 wagons have different clearance lights and thus the front fenders are slightly different

This should be proof that the 87 - 88 fenders will fit the older styled lights, and fit no problem on 83 to 86 models.
My 87 has 84 lights and grille, the only modification needed was changing the plugs for the headlights.
everything fit just fine.
This all works vice versa aswell.

There are two distinctly different park lights for the 4WD Tercel. I don’t think the fenders changed at all, but the park lights certainly did. I would expect the headlamp housings must have changed slightly as well. If the park lamp and headlight housing is swapped together, it may work fine.

The hatchback fenders fit too. I have '83 hatchback fenders on my '84 4wd wagon.

Awesome information. Thanks for all the help. As suggested, sounds like purchasing a used fender and parking light is the way to go. I was doing a search earlier and found this; https://www.autofitparts.com/fender-85- ... -terceltyt

Any thoughts on aftermarket vs original.

One thing to note- the front sidemarkers are common ONLY to '83-'86 4WD. Sedans and FWD wagons are different ('tho they will interchange if you swap out the headlight assemblies, bezels and grille.) Hope this helps.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

88 SR5 White (the 'good' one)-not anymore-totaled

the fenders are all the same, all models from 83 thru 86 will fit the 4wd wagon fenders, but only wagon fenders fit (either 2wd or 4wd) on model years '87-88.

front bumpers and side marker, headlight assemblies will not interchange between 2wd and 4wd (the 4wd sits about 20mm higher, and for some reason they altered bumper height, federal requirements perhaps).

I think a good condition used factory fender is better quality than new aftermarket, if you can still get them. the aftermarket ones seem thinner gauge, and do not have the same durable primer and rust proofing, so they tend to rust out faster.
