WTB: 4WD Transmission Mount

Post by The Professor »

I'd like to get a spare, used 4WD transmission mount to modify the new 2WD mount I bought.

Let me know what you've got and what you're looking to get for it.

Thanks!

any reason you aren't using a new one? I see they are like $20 shipped from rock auto. can't say about the quality.

all you really need is a piece of flat bar drill a hole in it and weld it to the new one

Well, I managed to find a newly installed, low mileage used 4WD transmission mount on a wagon in the junkyard. Before I found that used mount, I purchased a new 2WD mount to attempt the modification.

The photo above of the two mounts is misleading. In the photo it looks like the mounts have similar geometry, but when you have both in hand, it's hard to see how they can be modified to interchange.

When I held my original 4WD mount beside the new 2WD mount, it was pretty obvious that just adding bar stock and drilling a hole was not going to be enough to fit. All the angles on the 2WD mount are different and you would need to do quite a bit more modification to get a 2WD mount to work on a 4WD transmission. In my opinion, they're not swappable, even with modification. Best bet going forward is to fill your used 4WD mount with 3M Window-Weld.
