Beat me to it, I also have an 85 4WD SR5. If transaction with Rellison falls through I would be interested. P/N's off the trans would be great as well. PM me because I haven't been getting notifications otherwise. Thanks.

The gear box in the trans will bolt up no problem, there are slightly different connectors for the back up light, and there is no "EL" indicator on the early models. changing the connector is not a problem.

The diff uses different ratios on '83-84, and 85 and later transaxle assembly. If your front diff assembly is in good condition than you will need to swap that out the whole bellhousing/front diff assy to keep the front/rear diff ratio the same. or you can use the front diff assembly on the early transaxle, and swap out the rear diff assembly with the 3.73:1 rear diff to it will match the new front diff ratio.

I would advise against trying to swap out the ring and pinion, it can be done but is a big complicated job to get the gear lash correct. even experienced mechanics can mess that up. do it as a complete assembly where you do not change the clearance between the ring and pinion gears.
