ISO: Wiper switch assembly from a 1985-88 SR5 wagon

Post by garyfish »

I've been wanting to get a wiper switch assembly out of an SR5 (with the intermittent setting) as an upgrade for my '87 T4WD DLX wagon

I recently learned on this Forum that only the (edit) 1985 through '88 SR5's have the proper 5-pin connector for the wiper motor... earlier SR5's have a 4-pin connector which will not work without modifications

can anybody out there help me with this? ... if so, post here or PM me

Gary- '85 & '86 SR5s also have the proper switch ass'ys- only '83 & '84's have 4-pin wiper motor connectors.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

Good news: I'm *sure* I have one.

Bad news: It's buried in the garage which is on the to-do list.

I'll let you know.

Did you get this figured out?

I pulled the switch assembly off of an 83 SR5 and plugged it into my 83 DLX but the intermittent failed to work. I recently pulled the motor as well but I haven't tried to install it yet. Would swapping the motor along with the switch give me intermittent wipers?

It's such a simple feature that is easily overlooked until you don't have it.

not likely the motor is the cause. but I am not even sure of the wiring logic of the system, I thought the intermittent switch was in the control stock, not in the motor.

you might check the part number on the wiper motor, if it is the same for both SR5 and DLX, than it would not be the motor.
