Does This Radiator Look Familiar ?

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Attached are several photos of my radiator, which I'd thought was a Toy OE, as it is brass/metal throughout. When I first replaced the "OE” cock, I stripped the threads on about 1/2 of the cock.
I then had my adventures with radiator drain cocks, as detailed in https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10494
I was able to revive most of the threads with the 1.25 portion of the thread file and reuse it with lots of Permatex red sealant - it is holding... I then purchased the correct plug from Advance, as shown on the left side of the photo and now travel with it and extra AF, “just in case.”

After looking at the photos of the radiator and its sticker - does it look like a Toy OE part? The small number of repair info bills I have from the three previous owners do not show a radiator being installed.

Looks after market to me (prob china.) Far as I know OE rads had plastic tanks. I've bought a couple A/M ones that were all metal.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

the OE radiator has plastic header tanks. That logo almost looks like the Obama campaign logo.

Hmmm - the plastic comments are interesting - as mentioned numerous times, my B.S. (Beautiful Sister) fried my first T4WD's radiator - and head - when ? failed and she paid no attention to the temp gauge. At the time, I thought the only thing wrong was the radiator, so I took it out and had a local radiator shop fix it. Of course, that was 29 years ago next month, but I'd sure swear that was an all-metal radiator.
I dug out the only photo I have of the engine bay (when I traded it in late '85), and it sure does look plastic.
Thanks for the answers.

Gee, all the old rotted out rads I replace are all metal. The plastic ones have all been aftermarket that I have seen. A Canada thing?

Thanks.
This was after I spent many hours cleaning up the bay - after I forgot to install the oil filler cap  and lost a couple of quarts...
I didn't notice it - and the pressure light did not come on - until I noticed oil seeping through the gap between the hood and the cowl while driving...
You can still see traces of my fiasco.

I dug further in my few repair bills from the Murfreesboro, TN, PO, and found in 2000 that she had cracked the head because of ? The water pump and gasket were replaced with new, and a used head was installed - but no radiator. Maybe that came later when a prob was found with the OE radiator.
The invoice states that a "machine shop cleaned and milled the head" - no mention of any valves being replaced. Maybe Goldie has a slightly higher compression ratio now?

Hah! No war here, I was just making an observation (and knew you could not resist reacting to it...I know you well enough by now).

Although this is ripe and just waiting for a political joke, it is with all my will power that I resisted that overpowering urge to poke fun at you just for the entertainment value. I will not, I will not, I will not...
