Hmm. We might be able to make it out there and check it out.

Motor and Transmission probably guaranteed to be good, yeah? Those tires even look to be in good shape!

There's also an 87 Nova with a 4AC, hmmm...

"Happy birthday to our toddler, he gets dumped in a hotel with mom while dad goes pick and pulling for his birthday which is only 3 days later!" is what it would look like =p

4ac are common and easy to find. unless you have specific plans for it, leave it for now. go back on a half off day to get it.

4AC is not so common down here in new mexico!

The 4AC would go into the oil burning 84 auto if I can find one.

I'm more interested if the transmission in the totalled T4 is any good.

I have found that these cars often end up in the wrecking yard if it needed a costly and major repair. If the car is not wrecked, most likely engine or trans is trashed. when I bought a 4ac for a friends car to install (which ended up in my car), we started pulling two 4ac engines, and found both had a rod through the side before we got very far, we found another one and it looked okay. I pulled the head and found one piston had struck the head, I thought it was workable and we pulled the engine, figuring it needed a rebuild. Turns out the connecting rod was also bent, the crank journals were wipped out where it was not worth saving (too far gone), but I found another crank to put in it, and later got a another connecting rod for it. 4 new pistons, overbore, new connecting rod bolts, rings, new valves and valve springs, another front harmonic balancer, new oil pump, and the engine was ready to install using my 3ac lightened flywheel. So, unless you get lucky, I would not count of a wrecking yard engine to be any good, count on giving it a full rebuild before you install it. If you can, do at least a compression test before you install it (will take some dinking around with a starter and battery, engine on an engine stand or braced with wood frame), and pull the oil pan and inspect the connecting rod bearings and crankshaft journals. If it all check out than you are safe to install it. If head gasket is shot (may not show up on compression test), it is that much extra work to replace it once the engine is in the car.

good luck.

The specific wagon linked at least was involved in an accident so maybe the engine and transmission are fine?

I was merely using the chevy nova as additional motivation to travel to salt lake and investigate.

I stopped by today, so a quick update for those still looking at this one—

The engine/front suspension/front clip are lying on the ground in front of the car. The transmission is gone (was an automatic) as is the carburetor. It rained here today and some yesterday, so I'd guess the intake/head is full of water. The radiator is also gone, as are the wheels & tires. 88K miles or so on the ODO.

Interior is really really nice. Grey plastic/vinyl everything, but someone took really good care of the car. All of the exterior body parts (RH QP, RH doors, hatch, hood, & RH fender) are in really good shape as well—no rust as far as I could tell. Seems unusual for an 80s Toy around here.
