When I was at the yard today looking for a Carb(got one-$12.95),I decided to stop by and say "Hi" to my favorite parts car,a 1986 Wagon with an almost flawless body,No Dings,No blemishes,No Rust. Guess what I found 3A~G? Thats Right...GONE! Didnt even get a chance to see-it-go.There must be an international J-Yard list thats de-valued Tercels, cause there drop'in like flys and Im alittle worried. :(

Yeah, even the paint was(copper~orange)good. The lightscovers where like new(realy!) and they where next on-my-list.I didnt think about the value of the body because mines in good-shape,but I dont see why someone couldnt take there (Dig.)camera to the J-yard and post-it right? :)

I passed up an 85 tercel at an auction, just like mine, mint body and interior with the power sunroof, but ran a little rough....it went for $500 and I am still losing sleep over that! :( Oh well, my interior is pretty good, but my body has about 3000 hail dings on it, not too bad, only when you get real close. I paid $500 for mine, it has the power sunroof, 5 speed manual. It had 187,000 miles and it was a complete lemon. I had to replace the clutch, rear end, axles, rear driveshaft, very many other front end parts, etc, etc. Now it's a $4000 car with 230,000 miles! But I love it and will never part with it. I also have an 85 tercel 2 dr hatchback, love that too.

Haha! I think we've all been there. It's part of owning an old car I guess. Glad to hear you like these cars as much as the rest of us here. I'm going to keep mine going as long as is possible. Same with my AE86.

Good to have you on the forum BTW! ;)

Just get a real glass sunroof from a Camry and put it in. All you have to do is cut a big hole in the roof. Don't worry about possibly screwing it up, just trace the pattern on there with a magic marker and go at it with the tin snips. To bend the metal down to make the vertical edge, a pair of vise-grips should work fine as long as you vise-grip it in fairly close segments.

That was going to be my second option. Use an angle grinder instead of tin snips if you have one. Cut inside of your line to give yourself some allowance. You can touch it up with the grinder after you remove the main piece of steel. I could swear my angle grinder is one of the most useful power tools I have ever purchased.

I was sort of being sarcastic in the above post. You definitely do not want to use tin snips, they bend the metal too much. Cutting the edge would not be too hard but how would you go about making the bend? The factory roof panel is stamped to create an edge even at the corners, but this would be next to impossible using hand tools. Unless maybe you had a steel block cut in the shape of the edge and pounded against it with a ball peen hammer or something.

You can buy the after market glass manual sunroofs and install them without too much trouble. Using the angle grinder would actually work fine. The seal covers up any imperfections; although you would want to re-paint the bare steel to prevent rust before putting the seal in.

Yeah, I got lucky that mine had a sunroof....and so mad that I passed up on another one with a sunroof, probably won't see another one of those  Anyway, the biggest reason I bought my 4WD is that I had a little 2 dr. tercel that I absolutely loved. I had never seen a tercel 4WD, they are very uncommon where I'm at. I was amazed that it was practically the same car but bigger, 4WD, and a sunroof! I had to have it! Now I am the proud owner of 2 85 tercels and I probably will not drive much of any other car...well except for my 77 Fury which was my first car ever. I will get some pictures up later.
