My New 85

Post by Typrus »

Yeah, this is part of why Blue needs out. Which sucks, because I want the full collection... sigh....

1985 Tercel 4wd DLX- Auto. Still has factory radio! WHOO! Dial the knob for selection!! 2 speakers! lol.

HORRIBLE noises coming from the engine. We knew something was up when we got it. Thats why we got the price dropped from $1000 to $100. lol.

Rusty on the edges.. I can now say this is the rustiest car we own. Lol.

We'll be ordering a reman engine for it soon. My deal with my folks was that we got the engine pronto and put it in.

Did I mention it has 123k miles on it? And we are the SECOND OWNERS. Boo-yah.
I'll get more pics later.

I'm quite satisfied with the automatic for the limited moving I've done so far. Moves right away and seems relatively slip-free. Engine seems weak though. REALLY weak... Even though it fires before the first starting crank is over. lol. Seemed more an engine issue than a slippage issue. Revs weren't high enough for me to suspect slippage.

If the crank pulley (timing belt) gets the slightest bit loose, it sounds just like a spun rod bearing, a very loud knock. I hear that a cracked flex plate can make a similar sound.

Congratulations on the purchase! Seems like it's a good buy and hopefully you'll get it running soon. So, is this car going to become your daily driver? Those remanufactured engines come with very good warranties, well most do.

Mine? Dunno. We'll juggle that stuff around when we get to it. Don't really want my sister to have it. She's not good to cars. I'd rather her go get a cheapy. Like a Honda. lol. We'll have to see how the automatic works aside from just puttering under 5mph. lol.

This is a real reman engine?
Bigga bucks !
The Jasper quote was for about $1700, as I recall; the rebuilder in Springfield, MO, where someone (I forget - mea culpa) got his 4AC still has 3ACs - for $1300+...
Where is yours coming from and how much?
