My 1984 Tercel is needed generally only for winter use. I generally run studs on the front tires only and have been very successful.
I needed to change out my front seals, timing belt, water pump ect, and so I have not ever used the AC, I removed the entire unit so I could more easily access the front of the engine compartment.
Doing this left a huge hole behind the grill that would allow snow to blow into the front of the engine.
Using the original bolt holes for the AC cooler, I fabricated s 28 gauge panel to restrict snow from the area. It looks like it should work. We will see.

Re: Removed AC
Hi Mountain dude. good work there and I hope it won't be an issue with cooling.
DId you keep the AC system? some people have been looking for a system for a while so you might be able to sell it on
Cheers

Re: Removed AC
nice work. acutally the non-a/c tercels come with a plastic blank panel to fill that space. cooling is improved with this addition, it forces ram air through the radiator. otherwise without it, the ram air pressurizes the area behind the radiator and reduces cooling flow through it.

Test flight. Climbed over our 7740ft mountain peak and back, all cool and worked well. Two front studded tires mounted and ready for bad weather.
Re: Removed AC
Any chance you could replicate this? I’m sure several members would be interested. I have an ‘85 and am planning to remove the AC, but have been worried about snow/air flow also.
