I just want to say, I'm really lucky. I found two donor cars with manual transmissions. Just 300 miles from me. So now I have to sets to swap transmission :). Do you guys have some kind of manual how to do it? What to look for?

There is a write-up on this site smewhere. I think more than one. I may have done one of them.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Ok Guys. So I'm swapping transmission now. I have the manual prepared by member of this forum, but I'm a bit confused. Manual said there is two files of transaxle. Pre 84 3,7 :1 Z52F, and after 84 4:1. Z54F. But in mine 84 is Z55F. What ratio has Z55F? Is it the same as Z54?

your '84 should have the 3.73:1 front diff ratio. if the new transmissions are manual (six speed shift), for the '85 and newer model year, they will be 4.1:1 final drive ratio. if that is the case, you need to unbolt the front diff assembly housing from the gear box on your car and and swap on to the new transmission.

or you can get the 4.1:1 rear diff drive 3rd member (center assembly) and swap out your rear diff. to use with the later trans.

not sure about the different model numbers.

take off the front cover and you can count the teeth on the ring gear. on the later ones there is a "4.1:1" stamped into the edge of the ring gear (may take cleaning it off to see it), the earlier 3.73:1 will have no ratio stamp in it. Verify by counting accurately the number of teeth on the pinion vs. the ring gear.

elsewhere on this forum, in the archives, there is a thread on transmission external markings to indicate gear ratio, and the number of teeth on both the ring and the pinion gear on both ratios. but I do not recall any of those details. someone may have already swapped out the front diff on the used trans you got, anything is possible on a car this old. so it is ALWAYS best to verify by actually counting the gear teeth.
