Is This a Hoax?

Post by Abletobecain »

I found this pic on one of my rabbit-hole Tercel searches.

The only place I can find it is Pinterest. If it's a doctored image, it sure looks pretty convincing.

The caption on Pinterest is something like "Tercel to cross the English Channel with 2.2-meter wheels (1985 date of crossing)."

it was a thing! I have a colour image on my other computer at home. the links go to a german auto website where you can pay to view the article and hi res images. the Tercel was swiss registered and drove over the english channel to france. Although after that I imagine the bodywork soon resembled swiss cheese.

somewhere on this forum is a picture of that tercel out on the water making its way toward France (wheels spinning, throwing water out in big rooster tails).

I found it on an image search some years ago and posted it in the forum (and it might still be in the archives). but I have not been able to locate that image again since than.

You had to go deep to dredge that up. :) Nice find!

That's an awesome piece of T4 history!

Toyota's have performed some crazy feats. Remember the Tundra that pulled the space shuttle? Or how about the Tundra that got a million miles?

Question remains. How did they get in or out of the car? through the hatch and hopefully they had a sunroof!

those look like truck inner tubes with rope wrapped around them for traction.
