FSM question

Post by Abletobecain »

Hello all,

I'm sorry if this has been addressed somewhere but I couldn't find it.

Is there a difference in the FSM's by year?

I now have an 83 DLX with an 83 manual and an 86 SR5 (Dec 86 so an 87?) with no manual.

It appears that most differences are cosmetic but I am trying to align the passenger window into the bottom channel and the measurement given in the 83 FSM just can't be right for the 86.

Is it worth sourcing an 87 manual for my SR5? Will I run into many other differences where I'll need the year specific manual?

Other than gear ratio not much changed, mostly electrical. Wrong year wiring diagrams can work or waste a lot of time. Year specific is always best no matter what you are working on. But, I haven't needed more than the manual here.

the windows on all models of 4wd Tercels are the same, all the parts are interchangeable from '83 to '88 as far as I have seen. I have swapped window parts across the years to fix bad regulators, replace glass, etc.

so either you are misunderstanding the service manual instructions, or there is an error in the service manual. you sure you have everything positioned correctly on your window assembly? Window parts do not line up correctly when they are not in the correct position.

So this is the measurement that I followed...the 7.520", but it was incredibly hard to get the front bolt installed as it was almost hidden behind the door and as soon as I rolled the window down, the entire bottom channel pulled toward the front of the car several inches and the window pulled out again.

A/C,

Based on your description, the regulator needs attention. While some movement fore/aft is expected, obviously most movement must be up/down. If,
the entire bottom channel pulled toward the front of the car several inches
that leads me to believe the regulator is not in the correct position, or isn't operating properly. I have an inoperable window and some difficult to operate windows I will be looking at before long so I will get some experience (I have some with other cars, not my favorite project).

Chris

PS - based on a quick review of the FSM, it looks like the window bolts in while in the "down" position, and then rolls up? Your description reads as though you bolted the window in while in the "up" location?

Hmm...I'll see what I can do with the regulator then...maybe just buy a new one as I sprayed all working parts with silicone.

I unbolted the channel from the regulator in the down position but when I bolted it back in with the 7.52" specification (again in the down position) the front bolt was just beyond reach of the access hole for a socket driver so I used an open end wrench instead. It rolled up fine but then the issue occurred when rolling back down. The glass run on the pillar side pulls out of the corner of the door frame as I roll the window down as well but I will be gluing the entire run in this weekend to hopefully remedy that issue.
