sounds like a mount or bracket came loose inside the door. that will cause the window to misalign. When it is held by all the mounts it is secure and should not ever just fall out of place. if something is loose, than it will never stay in place.

It should be a fairly simple procedure to remove the door crank/handel, remove the door panel and liner, and than carefully inspect all of the rails, regulator, and other mounts for the assembly. sometimes parts wear out and will not stay in place, so you may have to replace parts, or fabricate a suitable substitute to make it all work.

consider that these cars are 30 plus years old, the driver side window gets a lot of use (the most of all the other windows), it is usually dusty in the door, and all moving parts wear out eventually. sometimes you can adjust the fit up, and it is good to go. other times you need to replace parts.

good luck.

i think you are saying that the glass came out of the rubber where it bolts to the track,,took one years back to a glass shop,he took the rubber out and threw it away and filled the track with windshield urethane put the glass back in the track and rolled up the window to hold it in place,,,had to leave it rolled up tight over nite to cure,

i use a large plastic mallet to drive it back on
center gasket over glass edge and channel over gasket (make sure it in right spot from frontmost edge of glass 5-7/8" to center of bolt hole)
might want to double check that 5-7/8" as it has been a while
i think i used a (very) little dishsoap to help it slide on easier
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm wondering if the guide channel on the pillar side got wonky somehow. I'll be digging into it better today. jimcrazy - I was thinking of using some kind of sealant in that channel. xirdneh - I ended up getting the window in there using a large rubber handled screwdriver as a mallet while I had a friend hold the window. But I had no idea about the measurement...FSM says 7.520". Guess I should have checked there first...then I would have realized I could just pull the whole glass up and out and not waste a couple hours trying to mount the channel inside the door, lol. When I finally got it on then rolled it up and back down it popped out again on the way down...I'm guessing that's from not measuring. I silcone/teflon sprayed all working parts inside the door. I'm sure I'll get it working this afternoon but first things first...off to the pull yard! Thanks again.

Turns out I have an 83 FSM and that measurement can't be right for the 86. Either that or somewhere over the last 33 years someone put in the wrong channel? Anyone have an 86 FSM?

So when I'm rolling the window down, the rubber window run pulls out of the corner. I was thinking of tacking it in with some sealant. Is this a bad idea for some reason? I've also noticed the rear passenger door doing the same thing but worse. I'm having a hard time locating replacement parts and I don't even see it labeled in the FSM. I'm thinking I should remove it, clean it really well and glue it in...any thoughts?

get it put in with the windshield urethane,,never worry about it coming out again, the glass shops have the proper primers for the urethane to stick to steel and glass

I'm thinking of doing that with the bottom channel that mounts to the regulator once I can find the right measurement for sure. What I'm noticing the issue is though, is that the window run channel that slides into the door frame and runs up the pillar side, across the top and down the hinge side of the door is pulling out...like the window is pulling it down and out of the door frame when it's rolled down. I'm thinking of sealing that piece in some how but it would be a rubber to metal bond. I'm just wondering if there's any reason that I wouldn't want to glue it in?

Turns out it was the rubber glass runs. They were just old and became rigid instead of pliable. I was lucky and pulled two good ones off the parts car at the junk yard. The back passenger window rolls smooth now and I'm just waiting with my fingers crossed that the front passenger window will stay glued in the bottom channel...gonna leave it rolled up for a day or two.
