I was looking at the wreckers and found that the corolla GT-S front wheel drive rear disc brakes have calipers that attach directly to the rear hub. Dimensionally, it looks like the discs and calipers would fit the Tercel rear with a bracket made of suitably thick metal plate. The GT-S front calipers are bigger, as are the rotors, and the brackets that attach to the hub look similar to the Tercel's, so using these brackets it may be possible to do an easy brake upgrade. If not, I'll just have to make brackets for the front as well. Using plate steel, the main difficulty would be cutting it. On a low budget, I could use a jigsaw with a high speed steel blade if the blade could take the abuse. If I were to make several of these to serve the Tercel community, getting them laser-cut would probably be affordable. There is a setup fee of about $50 then a charge per minute of cutting time. All that's needed is a CAD drawing of the parts. Supposing I get the system working with ghetto-cut brackets and junkyard calipers and a proportioning valve, would anyone else be interested in this upgrade? Given an amount of people who want it, I could get prices on laser cutting and convert that into a cost per kit, consisting of just the 4 brackets. There's 3 Corolla GT-S's at wreckers near me with brakes on them, and I will probably get the parts off of one at the cheaper but further wrecker. I need to go there soon because I owe someone on this board some lug nuts. This brake setup would own the stock solid discs and rear drums. I've been running a .1" under tolerance right front rotor for almost a year now and it's time to upgrade.

Sweet! A better brake setup would = more towing capacity (for trailers without brakes).

I'd definitely be interested. All I need is the brackets though. There are a bunch of GTS's at local wreckers around me.

Could you use a hand held angle grinder with a cutting wheel on it? If so I could ship you mine to borrow.

Thanks, but I don't think that would do the job. I need to make an internal cut to do the hole where it mounts to the rear axle.
