Japanese Market Clinometer UPSIDE DOWN

Post by bryanthompson »

Question for Clinometer experts: My beautiful JDM Clinometer arrived today with the side view oriented upside down. Kind of humorous. Is the mechanism trying to orient itself to the other side of the planet? Or did it some how jump the stop that keeps it from flipping. Most importantly, how do I get it right side up? TIA

I messed with one recently that was about 45 degrees off. Took it partially apart but could not figure out for sure how it got that way. There were small plastic gears and looked like they had jumped the track. I did not try take it further. I sure hope someone knows how to fix this.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Donor rolled over backwards during a hill climb and slid straight down?

Sorry, that's all I got, never opened one up. As long as it still functions, I would think an easy fix. Does it still work smoothly thru it's range? Was it right before it was shipped?

Bryan, As our Clinometer is very close to ones used in Landcruisers and hilux of similar years (they still used the same TErcel icon!) you might be able to get some advice on their forums as well regarding the clinometers

Thanks, fellas! I'll post some photos when I open it up. Need to find some time and a quiet space to work on it delicately.

there was a forum member some many years ago, who was restoring a Tercel and took the inclinomter apart to clean it and "refresh" the face. I do not recall it was that difficult, he emailed me to tell me he was pleased with the results and that it now looked like new.

You should be able to get it open and correct it. before I did that, I would see if I can coax it back into the right position by rolling it around in my hands, and giving a few wraps at the right time. They are fairly rugged devices.

good luck
