Clipped a deer this morning

Post by NWMO »

Hey All,

Clipped a darn deer on the way to work this morning. Fortunately nothing major, just need to purchase and repair some plastic pieces as well as bend/bondo some steel.

At any rate, I got the fan blade back together and back on. Other repairs will wait a bit. My pics are a little large and it's late, may post them later.

How's the deer?
I'm concerned about your car too, but curious if the deer got clipped and ran away or did it expire.

And, wondering if you got some roadkill for the freezer?

Simon,

I saw the deer spin into the ditch, but nothing more. Based on damage and lack of blood, who knows, maybe she's ok. I would expect there is a fair chance that addrenalin can carry a deer with a broken leg a mile or more before they stop. Then depending on injuries they either heal or feed the coyotes and vultures.

I did borrow a pistol and shoot the last one my wife hit, but didn't have the time or interest in butchering.

Hey all,

Just an update that fits with this old post. Hit another deer yesterday morning and have some work in front of me. Engine spins fine and I can turn the cam by hand some, but the timing belt has come off or was more likely broken?? I may use this as an excuse to work on Terc2, time will tell, I need a few hours to really check the Rusty Frog over and see what is needed mechanically, I think I have most of the body/plastic. The deer did not survive.

I maybe hadn't posted recent pics here, but the thin steel bar on the bumper and the steel pipe seen near the passenger headlight were parts of a snorkel I had hillbilly built (and enjoyed).

Do you need any replacement parts you might not have on hand? Grill, lights, ect?

when I hit a dear, killed it instantly, it shmushed the hood, and wrecked the radiator and plastic grill. everything else was okay, even the cooling fan, and I could drive it to get it off the road. once I got it back together and running, the pulley on the water pump was wobbling, the shaft was bent. so that was the only mechanical parts that needed replacing.

carefully check the pulleys and components on the front of the engine.

Started pulling parts, the hood is pretty good, I was worried it wasn’t in good shape.
