when I was 23 (the year I graduated from collage with my degree in engineering) I had already rebuilt 12 or 14 motors: a 350 chevy, a 1949 willys jeep, a 1958 volvo 444, two 1964-65 Volvo 122S, a volvo P1800S, two 1971 Datsun 510s (L-16 engine), a Datsun B110 engine (1.1 liter), a Datsun 1600 motor, several VW air cooled motors, a 1600 Porsche engine and transmission, a friend's fiat and his MGB...those are the ones I remember, and not counting the ones I was paid to do in the several shops I worked in part time since I was 17.

It has been 34 years since than, and many more engines later.

I really wish I'd painted my 1ZZ.

CURSES! Opportunities taken for granted.

Finally took care of a few small things today!! Fixed a few coolant leaks, an oil leak, adjusted timing some, fixed my horn, and cut a hole in my timing cover. So got kinda creative today!!
Image

Used a screw head, drilled it out and tapered the hole so that it stuck on, works like a charm!!

I know i need a new cover, i can't find one though :/ but here's the hole I cut in the timing cover, should help out so much if I have to mess with the dizzy again. When I find my plexiglass that hole with get covered and might add a light behind it for cool points!

Threw another hatch on, without dents. Wet sanded already and ready for paint soon. I still have all the guts out of the old hatch if anyone needs anything. This hatch didn't have the rear wiper or the sprayer. :\

I bought the car and it was rear ended. Luckily the only thing that was smashed in was the hatch. After a year and a half, one popped up at a local yard with a good hatch so I had to snatch it up. Thinking about picking that motor up too and making a small turbo build on it. Wife asked me what I was going to do once I finish my car and I told her that I really don't know. Haha.

The no wiper washer hatches are the worst!

You could add it back in if you were motivated.

Haha, you might be right depending on where you live. There's not much of anything but sunlight and dust storms around here. With my expertise in ruining everything I touch, I think I'll stray away from that idea. Haha. I do have a plan though that I want to follow through on with keeping the sprayer. I'd have to cut up the cargo cover and I'm not sure if I want to do that.

I didn't even know they made them without a wiper washer....I wish mine didn't have one, I've never used mine and it just gets in the way when I go to wash my car.....haha

Nice!
I've just been making mine more pleasant to drive... New motor mounts (to replace my polyurethane glue ghetto mounts), 2nd muffler, and a flex joint in the exhaust have made the car much nicer to drive. Next step will be retrofitting the AC system from the Corolla engine and it'll be a downright nice car to drive year round.

Awesome. You just reminded me that I have to fix my a/c too, before it gets too hot. I now have a bad leak somewhere near or at the expansion valve. A little more trinkets here and there then I can move on to another project. Plan on building a bicycle with a go kart motor on it. Haha.

Installed heater hoses, throttle cable, battery cables, and the harness I repaired. Also installed the starter and started installing the power steering pump on its brackets, then added ATF to the reservoir (HEY, works for BMWs).

Removed the battery tray for cleaning and installed the lower radiator hose.

Tomorrow the fuel pump goes on, axles go in, fluids go in, alternator goes on, and hopefully I can get the car to start.

Finally got around to clear coating the car. Not the best paint job ever but I like it. Had to get these stickers too.
