Toyota Vans

There was a mint Toyota van across from my house today and it got me thinking about them more. I found this - http://www.toyotavans.org and a few other good sites. They have the full repair manual scanned.
These are the best vehicles. Seriously, nothing is better than these. Just 15 years ago, a manufacturer could actually sell such a thing with a creative design. Something other than front engine, front wheel drive, and curved lines that look like everyone else's car.

Take the body off and make a nice little 4WD dune buggy.

I think those little vans were more popular in Japan. A great maneuverable, roomy vehicle for a crowded city like Tokyo. The wheelbase is actually quite a few inches shorter than the Tercel.

I owned and camped in a short wheelbase 2WD Chevy van like these at one time.

Downside vs the Tercel 4WD:

* high center of gravity....watch those corners.

* short wheelbase...watch those corners.

* engine over front wheels...if it catches on fire...watch your van burn up.

* need to get out to get into 4WD.

That said, with the suspension beefed up, it would be a GOOD camping vehicle.

The toyota vans do much better with supra 14"x7" alloys on them. The offset gives them a better stance and handling. I almost bought a 4wd one a couple years ago. I was going to set it up for camping.
