First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5

California smog issue could probably be worked (passes CO2, O2, HC, CO, and NO, but "failed ignition timing check"). But in addition to passing smog, California wants $540 for past due registration so this baby needs an out-of-state buyer to haul it away. No time to part out so alternative is junkyard.

Located in lake Elsinore CA. Good running vehicle with 165,800 miles. Decent body thanks to Arizona desert but original paint is getting thin. Mechanically good to excellent. New tires, catalytic converter, windshield, and some front suspension parts. Minor body damage at lower left rear. Upholstery needs work.

Bottom line: whoever hauls it away for $500 is getting a good deal by a grand or better.

If no else wants to save this car, I will take it. My parents do not live far from Lake Elsinor (we used to go camping in that area when I was a little kid, it was not nearly as built up than). I need to go see my parents soon anyway, I can come get the car, visit for a few days with my parents and than drive it back to Washington, where registration is no problem as long as I get a clear, signed title from you.

is the car in good enough condition for a long road trip? what else does it need? I have most spares so I can bring what ever it needs with me in my luggage and install it when I get there. How is the battery, tires, brakes, and how old is the clutch? Radiator and cooling system all good?

How long has it been since it was a daily driver? And why exactly has it not been driven?

Clarification: Yes, very driveable but only outside the borders of California. Car hauler or flatbed would avoid California's official position that it can't even be towed on public roads unless it passes smog. Would guess that nasty requirement doesn't get enforced much, but I don't know. Will be out much of the day tomorrow.
