Re: First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5
Problem is the court is 2.5 hours away in the middle of Nowhere, Arizona and the court date is on a Tuesday
I'm going to call them and talk to them and see what's up. If they'll reduce it but I have to show up, I might as well pay it (gas and stuff, plus needing to lose work time).

a lot of jurisdictions allow you contest by mail, not likely helpful but it can buy you time.
Many small towns depend on people like you to add to their local highway funds, and to fund their annual police dinner/dance.

not paying it may not be a good idea, at of states have arrangements that they would prevent you from registering your car in your state if you have an outstanding ticket in another. Particular for adjoining states. Most states agree since it means income for them as well with a reciprocity agreement.

I was kidding, anyway Peter!
The wagon was registered on Monday, at least.

The cop mentioned being able to teleconference if unable to be there in person, but I'm unfamiliar with this so I'm not sure how effective it is. He also mentioned contacting the 'staff' via email and working something out and being likely to at least half the fine if it was registered quickly when we arrived home but no one has responded as of yet.

Re: First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5
usually if the dolly or trailer is registered you are okay. Most states have a temp or transport registration. In North Carolina I got one good for 10 days for $5 that included a paper plate, in California it is $18 for a one way trip out of state. It is an extra hassle particularly if you buy the car on a weekend, but it depends on the state and how bored the local cops are, as I stated, they are often just looking to raise revenues rather than doing legitimate law enforcement.
go to the jurisdiction web site and see what it takes to contest a ticket, and if there are instructions to do it by mail. if you send in your proof of registration with a letter they would likely reduced the fine or even dismiss it.
I was pulled over with a Tercel that I bought in California from Tercel4wdrules to sell here. I had current registration and a current California proof of insurance card, and a bill of sale. When I got off the fwy in Washington near Seattle a cope still issued me a ticket for $400 for failure to have insurance (even though I showed him my insurance card that covered me for any other car I drive). He said I need an affidavit from my insurance carrier, but I protested that I can not insure a car that I do not yet own, only after the title is transferred can I get insurance. I contested it by mail, with copies of all of the documents, and a letter from my insurance agent stating I was covered for any car I drove (my insurance agent has never even heard of an affidavit for a car you just bought). the judge found me guilty of driving without insurance (????) but reduced the fine to zero (????). I guess I just to not have the keen legal mind of the judge to understand what that was supposed to mean.

Pretty sure it doesn't apply to a tow dolly if the dolly has a plate.

Re: First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5
The arizona cop even told me the California permit that would have been expired by then probably wouldn't have helped but he might have let me go if I had it.
So helpful.

Was that a California state permit or a interstate permit?
