First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5

This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

Seems to me like it failed because the idle rpm was too high... Usually that means over 1000 rpm. Lower it down to 800 or so and it should pass.

If nothing else, throw a lic. plate off another T4wd and drive it home. I've done this more times than I can count. Get away with whatever you can with this criminal government. Save this valuable car!

I got caught with a fictitious plate when i was younger the policeman was obligated To impound the car and i was lucky to walk away withought being arrested  I NEVER SAW THE CAR AGAIN THEY WANTED THOUSANDS IN FINES! The policeman was really pissed off he made it very clear that if my plates were expired or non existent and i had just purchaced the car he would have been able to let it slide but by putting fake plates on i had tied his hands to impound the car!

It is far better to have no plates or expired plates and a reasonable excuse than to intentionally lie.(Fake plates)

I didn't claim it was without risk...but none the less has worked for me more times than I can count. I minimize my groveling and blind arbitrary adherence to the law any chance I get. To each their own.

since I have more than a few Tercel4wd sitting around I have thought of this too, making a temp transfer of plate from licensed car to the unlicensed so I can drive it. however after consideration it seems like a really bad idea, a temp transport permit is $18 and easy to get, even driving without current registration with expired plates and a bill of sale would be less troublesome if pulled over. Falsified registration is considered fraud, even if you claim you had made a mistate and confused the plates.

Around here, many of the small jurisdictions with nothing better to do will pull you over for such minor issues just for the sake of fishing for extra revenue (to justify their jobs). I even had a Tercel once with out of state plates, and an out of state owner on the registration and a temp registration from that state, and I got pulled over and hassled, threatened me with a $250 fine for not having a in-state registration (which was really stupid since the new owner was taking it out of state anyway!!!). He had no reason to stop me other than a fishing trip to look for revenue. he decided since it was going out of state so he would not ticket me (since it would just waste court time), but warned me if he found me again without current in-state plates he would ticket me.

Just got a call from the daughter, he died last monday

Thankfully she was able to figure out everything about contacting me from his notes. Will still be going out on the 20th to pick up the wagon.

Wow condolences. If you don't want to make the trip I have been looking for a tercel sr5 for awhile. I'm located in Las Vegas.

Figures I got pulled over and fined $200 for expired plates, even with a bill of sale. He automatically read the plate as he passed me on the interstate, I guess this is one case where having the plate from our other wagon on the car would have helped!

Total bummer! At least you go to keep the car, so it could have been worse.

It's good we had proof of insurance or that's a 1000$ fine in AZ apparently.

If you go to court on that ticket i bet the judge will reduce it or even make it go away.
