87 4wd parts or fixer upper in Farmington nm

Post by Vienna »

I spotted this on a "parts" tercel today in my local Craig's list search.

http://farmington.craigslist.org/cto/4302559652.html

We're thinking about it, maybe offering a bit lower. Any opinions on if this is worth it with a blown tranny? Would it be worth saving her from crusher doom since the body is apparently in good condition?

Looks to be a decent looking rig. Has a sunroof too which is a nice option (with a good seal of course). As for the trans issue...I would say since the seller has already opened the price up with offers taken as well I would consider it for sure. Sitting 6 years with all that he listed to be done to it, I( bet he would take $300 cash to get it out of his way. The trans can be dealt with. I believe the 2wd trans main parts are the same so that opens up more replacement part options.

These cars have been able to sit through worse conditions and become good runners.

Peace

If it were me I would offer 300 without a title and if you want to put it back on the road tell them another 100 when they produce the title.
87 headlight assembly's are hard to find any more i would save it.

The hatch looks like it took a pretty hard strike, the dent looks quite deeply inset. Guessing whatever hit it took out the back window as well. If we do fix it up, getting the tranny sounds like the hard part of the deal, but on the other hand, I'm sure she has parts we'd be glad to use on our current cars

If you can get it for $300-350, it is a great deal, even with the dented rear. I see no rust, and the rest of the body looks great, and has the composite head lights.

You could get lucky if the "trans" problem might only be a bad clutch, throw out bearing or something else easy to replace (I have seen it before). Running good and cleaned up a Tercel4wd like that around here would get about $3000 for it

Even if the trans is blown and bundled up, it is still worth fixing it, this is worth a lot more than a parts car! Save this Tercel from the crusher, go get it! Consider, if you have to buy a trans for $1000, and put another $500 in parts into it, you still come out way ahead on its value. Like money in the Bank!

Fixer vs parts car first depends on the title I think?

It also depends on the condition of the inside. No back window for years?

What about converting it into an auto?

Rich has an auto transmission laying around which is why I was wondering.

I wonder if a hatch will fit in the back of the wagon

Sorry paul- a/t's gone (couldn't store it at work any longer and it was too damn heavy to take home!) You'd also need the rear diff, pedal ass'y, top of the trans tunnel and some other stuff- all of which i no longer have. Again, Sorry!
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!
