Jay Traugott is off quite a bit. 3k new? I don't think so. An 85 with everything but a sunroof is almost 12k new as shown by my 85's original receipt.
Most of the low mileage ebay beauties have also gone for 10-14k. Bryan's might have been at the top of that heap for minty garage queens. I wonder how many more are out there?

Tercels were pretty expensive. I did some googling and inflation converter-ing and to buy a 4wd tercel in today's money would set you back around $25-$30K.
A brand new car for $12K isn't that bad with a bit of perspective.

I'm guessing that the estate sold it for $3k, the buyer made quite a bit of profit.
