1985 SR5 T4WD, CT

Post by SethM »

EDIT: NOW IN CT:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13346#p105391

Well, its the end of the line for me.... My 1985 T4WD originally came from Texas (I got it there with about 160,000 on it) and so survived longer in the NE than most Tercels. It has just short of 250,000 on it now. Was my daily drive until two weeks ago. Starts every time. I just changed the timing belt when I put in a new radiator at 243,000. Will need new front strut inserts. I can drive/deliver it within 200 miles. I'll put up some Craigslist ads but thought I'd start here in case anyone is interested. Will add more photos but here is one taken when I was changing the radiator/timing belt. Oh, price--- I have no idea, best offer. Hate to sell it for scrap weight.

Whoa! Didn't expect anybody to reply...

It has power steering (works just fine) and it "has" AC but that has never worked since I have owned it. I never looked into why it doesn't work. Rust? Yes, it has developed on spot below the rear-most window on the driver's side.

Why selling? Well, my state inspection came due and I started thinking about the things I needed to do-- mainly change the front strut inserts but the guys I take it to for jobs that are over my head started to give me a hard time and question the $$ I have been putting in to it over the years, especially recently, to keep it going as my daily driver. I have some construction projects coming up and decided it might be time to make the jump to a pickup and found something I liked and could afford... Would I drive it across country? Maybe, I certainly drove it all over but I just think its getting a bit long in the tooth for those kind of excursions. Wait, maybe it is just me getting long in the tooth...

if the price is right, and presuming you do not find a local buyer, I might consider flying out to you, buying your car and driving it back to seattle.

These cars are still popular here, I would be fixing those issues, clean it up, and it would get a decent price here. Mostly for me it would more or less pay for a road trip, so there is not a lot of profit in it. just enough to get a nice road trip out of it, and get it to a place where it would sell fast in a market with a lot of enthusiasts for these cars.

Dallas now called Spud, has been given a makeover courtesy of POR15, trim black and rustoleum antique white, new shocks/struts, terro ant killer and a selective r/r with older parts from my other T4wd. She now resides at a friend's house waiting for registration.

Here you go!

As you can see, it was a quick and dirty paint job, but it should keep Spud on the road a while longer. I fixed a couple of holes as well with some fiberglass, incl. on the driver's A pillar. The black on the window trim really made a difference, esp. around the windshield.

Hey, Looks great. Yeah I do my trims once a year with a rattle can and some masking. Really improves the look. New bushings will also make a great improvement. Have you changed the oil in the gearbox and rear diff?

No more work for me on this one, it now belongs to my friend's daughter. Rides well, starts every time, shifts smooth.

I'm sorry to say that I'm offering this Tercel 4wd for sale. I had given it to my neighbor's daughter, but she never registered or even drove the car. After installation of a new battery, she's given "Spud" back to me. I've no real use for the car and prefer to pass it along for less than what I have in it. $500 for a running/driving/braking T4WD. Recent pics below.
