1987 Tercel SR5 4x4 Wagon for sale

Post by Triceratops »

Check out my amazing Toyota Tercel 4x4 Wagon! This vehicle just keeps going. It’s bullet proof! 184k Miles. Check out my CL ad for more details. $1000 obo and open to motorcycle trades.

I’ve done some work to it myself but still can’t seem to troubleshoot the issue and get it running at full capacity. At this point I’m cutting my losses. Located in northern New Mexico.

Yes. Just as a precaution. It’s fully titled and registered to me.

I bought a 71 Maverick once that had one of those RV vents in the roof. As I drove it home, another driver gawking at it hit another car. I removed it.

The vent wasn’t my choice. The woman I acquired this from had cockatiels. Since there is no a/c she had this put in. I’m not sure why her birds were in the car often enough for this.

I could not quite find in all that text exactly what it needs to make it road worthy, care to summarize what repairs it will need?

It has issues starting but it should just be a starter. Then issues idling in cold weather. The drivetrain has its issues, possible control arm or tire rods. That’s what the mechanic who shook the wheels in a parking lot said. It goes and drives just needs work.

replacing tie rod ends or even the lower ball joint is not that much work. replacing bushings in the lower control arms is not a big deal either, at least the outter one. the inner one is a PIA, but usually the inner ones do not go bad as often.

none of those repairs sound like a reason to give up on it. for the starter I would make sure the battery terminals are clean, as well as the contacts at the other end of the battery cables, both the ground, and where it attaches to the starter motor. If it is not a weak battery, and contacts are all good, than likely it needs a starter. even that is not a too difficult to replace.

We can walk you through those repairs if you like, unless you just decided to unload the car. with those items the price you are asking is a bit high, it would take quite a lot to have a repair shop fix those items. It is not too bad as a do it yourself job, likly you need less than $100 worth of parts to get it all fixed. Though you have not given a lot of detail about what it actually needs, "hard to start" could mean a lot of things.

can you be more specific?
