Nice job hoodwagon! I was going to post these pictures today too! I went out about noon and saw some good parts for my ‘85 but didn’t have time because I was working but there are still some useful parts. I’m going again to pick up some parts and I’ll look at the list and pick up some other parts if others want parts too. Let me know...I’m new to the T4WD world but I’m ready for the ride!

I also had my eye on that left headlamp assembly, including the side-marker light. It's a keeper if the headlamp lens is hole-free, not cracked, and doesn't have any moisture or water droplets visible inside.

Dang! Sorry Mrdance. I very much intended to go back and see if the headlight was still there for Gary. I'm surprised at how quickly they churned and burned. It's been less than a month on the lot!

That is just a shame.

they use I think an algorithm that monitors how much money they make off each row, when it drops below a threshold, the replace the whole row. I notice locally cars typically are on the lot about 2 to 3 months, but it can vary depending on demand. Other yards it is much faster. They are completely indifferent to our needs for older vintage car parts. That is how they stay in business selling used parts for cheap.

so you can not wait too long on less common older cars like ours. they will not usually make a lot of money off of them anyway, not exactly a hot market for 30 year old used Tercel parts. so once their income from the whole row drops off, all of it goes all at once.

My mate who is a landscaper saw this car getting loaded on a truck and took a photo for me. I got the number of the yard and immediately pleaded with them to sell it to me complete. No dice. Someone else blogged about it here.

Really depresses me. such a complete car at the wreckers.. I won't use these guys anymore.

I go to 2 different Pick-N-Pull yards near Portland regularly and see their pattern of clearing rows and crushing old inventory. There is always a complete row, or parts of 2 adjoining rows sitting empty, allowing forklifts space to operate. The empty row progresses steadily across the yard (and or within zones of vehicle class /size within the yard) the oldest inventory is removed with the latest inventory placed in the moving empty row. They might decide to keep specific cars instead of crushing them this time around. They don't track parts sold from individual cars. They don't know what car I get my parts from when I buy it, and they never ask. They won't tell you if a car still has a part on it, you have to come look for yourself. When I take parts to the counter to buy them, then decide not to buy, they just throw them away into recycling rather than ask where they came from. I offered to return these parts to where they came from, and they say NO.

I know this is an old thread but I just had to chime in.

I just called the Portland South Pick-n-Pull today to inquire about an 87 I found in some deep searches on the web. They said they had one but wouldn't tell me anything about it. I called three or four other junk yards yesterday and they all texted me pics. It sucks that the Pick-n-Pull won't even tell me if the door panel is there cause I'm over three hours away.

If any of you are headed that way anytime soon could you please see if they have the front passenger door panel in the black striped pattern?

Other than that...seats if they're any good, 3rd brake light cover, reverse light access panel, and radio housing trim...all in black.

If anyone can grab these parts I'd be happy to drive down and snag them...and to compensate you for your time as well...or, alternatively, just let me know if any of those parts are even there and I'll come down.

Thanks!

Also...Mattel...so incredibly sad that car was crushed. That interior is amazing and the mud flaps are perfect and the cargo cover looks great and the euro front clip...that's the saddest I think. :( Did you guys only get euros down Oz way?

Thanks Able, really turned me off wreckers. That car would have been a great project. The only Tercels we ever got in Australia were 4wd manual wagons from 83-87 with the Euro front and a remote release for the tailgate that you guys never got in the LHD versions. There was a lot around for a long time but we had a 10 year mining boon so everyone junked them and bought new SUVs.

I can't believe any of these cars get junked!

I just got my first in early December then another a week later, haha. Like Petros says...they have this way of wrapping around your emotions.

Remote release sounds pretty cool. I was thinking about adding one to mine when I install an alarm system...I know you mean yours are cabled but with an alarm, a door pop solenoid, and some properly adjusted gas struts, I'm hoping to have an auto opening rear hatch to load my pup.

I just started planning a trip to Oz for around thanksgiving time. My buddy is a Brewer in Sydney. Where are you located? Might be able to pop over and say hi.

You better watch out with ideas like that, otherwise I may steal them!

Power locks, power windows, reverse camera, dash camera, full air ride suspension, roof basket with a big led light bar. I have a natural thing for wiring, I really enjoy modernizing my car with random crap. Did the same power window and lock kit on the 87 pickup too.
