Look at these two links on this car... (a tad more than $100 will be needed...).
Original purchaser (and presumably CL seller): https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6720
And inspection plus from tercel4wdrules: https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... ilit=dairy
He said it has a 5 SPD trans (see bigga bucks remark above to change to 4WD).

Funny stuff going on with this car. Looks can be deceiving. I'm only 20min away should I go check it out?

It might be worth some grins - but don't be sarcastic (ie, do not follow my usual pattern...).
I sure hope the person who buys this does not think it can be converted to 4WD for $100...

IIRC, someone put in a FWD trans, so the reason the 4wd does not work is it no longer has the 4wd trans in it. Likely drive shaft is missing too. Way too much money for it, if it had the correct trans it might be an okay price, if owning a "famous" Tercel is worth a little extra to you. I think the guy who bought it did not know what he was buying.

In some pictures I saw, the trans looked to be a 4WD one as it had an extension housing and the propellor shaft was attached. I'm certain it just has a Z52F (early ratio trans) that needs a matching 3.73:1 rear differential to get the 4WD working again. Supposedly the original trans was destroyed due to a fast lube place not properly refilling the gear oil or failing to do so at all if I recall correctly. It just depends how much one person is willing to pay for it... It's hard to find a car with such a clean interior I might say.

If you're into it, that would be great and take your camera to show us all the sweet spots

Owner of the Dairy Queen car here: It has a 4WD trans, since when the 4WD lever is pulled "bad things happen" i.e. crown/pinion grind together and locks up the car, or something, and the rear drive shaft also goes into the back of the trans; these indicate a 4WD transmission. So, the issue at hand is that it needs a matching rear differential to get the 4WD up and running again, as tercel4wdrules mentioned!

That being said, if anyone has a rear differential that they can sell me, please PM me and let me know! Thanks! @_@

P.S. Petros is right. At the time I didn't know what I was buying. I thought it would need a whole new transmission to fix the 4WD, but recently learned all it needs is a matching rear diff.

welcome to the list!

I actually might have the diff you need. Since it was an 85 it must have come with the 4.1:1 front and rear diff, so now it must have the 3.73:1 front, so you need a 3.73:1 rear. shipping is about $40 (I have sent the whole 3rd member assembly before), what do you think it is worth? (I have to pull it out of a extra rear axle assembly I have).
