Did Consumer Reports do a test? It seems that it did, and compared a couple of 4WD wagons at the time, like the CandD report - I didn't base my purchase of the '83 on them (more on the fact that it had hot water heat and was funky). I emailed CR a couple of times a few years ago - but the only answers I got were solicitations for "membership."
Maybe someone here is a "member" and can request the info ?
My local library apparently does not have access to any "mature" issues.

The Turtle gets 40/45 mpg city/highway? What kind of gas do they have down under?

Guess the Verizon ad guy would be screaming into his cel phone, with each "Can you hear me now?" getting louder and louder...

Hmmm...maybe an idea for a new Verizon ad - first the guy uses Cingular in a Terc - no response; then he tries it with an AT&T (sub Telus in BC) service - no response; then he tries it with Verizon and - Eureka! - it works !
The tagline could be "If it is clear in a T4WD at 5mph, it IS the clearest!"
Just thinkin'...

yep-imperial gallons in the 80's although we had turned metric in the early 70's some people were still using some use of the old system MPG held out till prob late 80's. As we still do with peoples height, surfboards, waves, snowboards and most things that are US derivatives. it's all litres per 100 kms now and mm thanks as I find the old system pretty confusing. Do you guys still size car engines by metric cc or cubic inches?

I paraphrase from teh wikipedia:
U.S. liquid gallon is legally defined as 231 cubic inches, and is equal to 3.785411784 litres (exactly)

Imperial (UK) gallon is legally defined as 4.54609 litres (≈ 277.42 cu in), which is about 1.2 U.S. liquid gallons. This definition is used in Commonwealth countries and Ireland.

I'll try to scan the 4 Wheel and Off-Road test with the AMC Eagle and the Subie 4wd wagon, but I'm going to try to be delicate with the "prized" collector issues....
