Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
I think that either someone pulled the trans like you said, or drove over something that managed to grab the part of the harness where it enters the engine bay on the driver's side of the trans.

Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
Oops, meant toe. I think my short is probably in the portion on the circuit that's for the 4WD and e-brake indicators, or in the Extra Low gear indicator circuit. Everything under the dash, save the speakers and antenna, seems not to have been messed with or be installed carelessly, but the transmis...

Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
Took her on the maiden voyage. I need to correct the two on the passenger's front wheel and tune in the carb and get the exhaust gasket, but otherwise it's fine. Oh, and the bloody gauge fuse blew at some point, I think while I was tightening the column fasteners. Going to have to print that circuit...

Re: my other wagon
That's the price you have to pay for increased safety. But I'm saying if you swap in a more modern engine to an older (and lighter) car, you'll have better mileage than with the old car and old engine design.

Re: I got a U.B.W. UNIDENTIFIED BROKEN WIRE
It may be one of the ones that goes to the transmission. Is this on a manual? I think the wires going to the trans are for the 4WD indicator and something else. Is the wire also kinda fat, as in not the usual 18 gauge?

Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
Are you serious? Stupid service manual only showed one plug! I can probably get the socket on that. Right now I only have a deep impact socket (also I just remembered I do indeed have an impact gun--DUH) in that size. What I was planning to do for leverage was make this https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ja7Ax4...

Re: my other wagon
I'm not talking about EPA estimates, I'm talking numbers people observe. Keep in mind that my Vibe is over 300 lbs heavier than a Tercel despite not being a whole lot larger and can get 33 mpg (as long as I'm in NM or CO). I can only guess at what I'd get in a Mazda. Heck, even the Yaris weighs in a...

Re: my other wagon
It's funny, because modern SUVs can weigh more, have more horsepower, and get like twice that number MPG. On GM products you can even swap in a more modern drivetrain most of the time on their older cars. It's sickening, really, because not only do they almost bolt right in for many engines, but the...

Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
I can't get a socket on it where it's at without dropping the tail of the transmission down, which I don't want to attempt since it might not go far enough anyway, and it's so tight the crescent wrench backs off on it. The differential drain plug was also so tight that I had to put a wrench on the b...

Jeez, Petros. That's pretty bad. One place I worked, no one would set the wrenches back to 0 after using them and...that's not good for them.

Re: Seat Belt? why no catch when strap is jerked?
if I was replacing mine, and I wanted to look "street race", I would install something like these: http://ep.yimg.com/ay/wescoperformance/individual-wrap-around-seat-belts-5-point-harness-17.jpg It will keep you safer in an accident probably! However, you also need one of those harness ba...

Re: Zach's 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon
I am now a drain plug away from having the Tercel actually driving away. I hope the last person who installed that fill plug steps on a rusty nail and must walk on legos in the dark to reach his or her bed for the rest of his or her miserable life.

It was. I just tossed it in the back, our local stations mostly suck anyway.
